King’s College London Social Mobility Yearbook 2018

King’s College London Social Mobility Yearbook 2018

Social mobility is necessary for redressing social inequality, and King’s College London is committed to finding the brightest minds regardless of their background and supporting them in accessing higher education.

Calverts designed and printed the 2018 Social Mobility Yearbook for the Social Mobility and Student Success Division.

The yearbook features a wide variety of different content types, including quotes and first hand accounts, photographs, case studies, programme descriptions, and statistics about the department’s reach and impact. We used colour, typography, and other visual elements to bring consistency and control to the design.

There was also an editorial challenge in presenting the complex strands of the department’s work with different age groups and at different points in the education system. We worked closely with the authors to rationalise this information visually and make it clear and engaging.

We wanted to create something very special for the yearbook cover that would reflect both the creativity and credibility of the department as sector leaders in higher education social mobility work. We found this balance by combining bold, simple statements in iridescent foil-blocked type on uncoated grey cover stock, producing a truly eye-catching effect.

Calverts helped us to produce a yearbook which really brought to life our social mobility work. It’s a beautiful piece of work that brings delight when we hand it out. The team were thoughtful and supported us to develop a better publication. The design team were considerate and put their heart into making something we’d all be proud of!
