MyLifeMyChoice, a self-advocacy charity run by and for people with learning disabilities, came to us with a brief to brand, design and prototype a highly interactive but flexible game. The aim was to develop something robust, fun and practical which would help children get the knowledge they need to safely negotiate different public transport systems, and acquire confidence when they’re out and about.
The solution was the Travel Buddy Game, with roving Pelican mascot. A pack of 58 hard-wearing, A5 size, traffic-light themed ‘playing cards’ goes together with a set of large dice, toy vehicles and accessories in individual boxes and drawstring bags. The game is all put together in a branded canvas satchel.
MyLifeMyChoice will be testing the game with groups of children and facilitators from schools, local authorities and charities next year. If our own experiments are anything to go by, it should be a hit – and quite messy!
