We’ve just designed and delivered this short manual for making workers’ co-operatives really work.
Written by the members of the UK Worker Co-operative Council and published by Co-operatives UK, the Code extrapolates the seven co-operative principles into a checklist for effective and sustainable worker co-operation, with the aim of strengthening our ability to deliver on the basic goal of workers’ co-ops – creating and sustaining decent jobs through meaningful employment, a culture of respect and equality at work, education and personal development, the opportunity to collectively self-manage our working lives and positive engagement with the communities in which we trade and operate.
Our design drew inspiration from classic co-operative logos from around the world, including a great mark created by Belgian industrial designer Raymond Loewy to commemorate the 75th anniversary if the International Co-operative Alliance (can you guess which one it is?)
The Code is available as a PDF download from Co-operatives UK’s website, and you can order printed copies from John Atherton at Co-ops UK.
