Intrepid traveller and photographer Michael Thomas's Elusive India: Kutch, published under Michael's Pipal Press imprint, is a beautiful photodocumentary about a remarkable region of India, ten years after a powerful earthquake which caused enormous damage and suffering.
For digital printing 200 copies on Calverts KM 8000 press, we tested Michael's greyscale images on a number of stocks – including Colorplan and Olin – before settling on 150gsm and 240gsm Munken Lynx Smooth, a soft white, tactile woodfree uncoated paper from Robert Horne. After a single round of proofing and adjustments to greyscale curves for three or four pictures, the end results are stunning.
