Carbon balanced paper

Carbon balanced paper
November 16, 2010 Calverts

CBP In the past, we've been skeptical of many carbon offsetting schemes, however a new initiative called Carbon Balanced Paper looks to deliver a more credible offset for CO2. It works like this:

  • Based on your print project we will recommend an appropriate carbon balanced paper which is both recycled and has FSC certification. There is no additional cost

  • The amount of CO2 generated by the paper production and distribution of your print project will be independently calculated and verified. This information when displayed together with the Carbon Balanced Paper logo will give a measurable, recognisable advantage to organisations and businesses with a carbon reduction strategy

  • Based on the CO2 calculation a donation will be made to The World Land Trust, an established UK-registered charity, who will purchase on your behalf an area of threatened tropical forest equivalent to that needed to absorb the CO2 generated by the paper production and distribution of your print project

  • Critical habitats are then protected, sustaining endangered species and rural economies, in addition to absorbing carbon from the atmosphere. Referred to as REDD (Reduced Emissions from Deforestation and forest Degradation), this is now considered one the most cost-effective and swiftest ways to arrest the rise in atmospheric CO2

Please get in touch if you would like more information on using carbon balanced papers in your own print projects.
