Far from run of the mill
In deepest Hemel Hempstead, a Victorian steam-driven machine is making recycled paper from elephant and rhino poo.
Frogmore Mill has been making paper for over 200 years – ever since it became the world’s first commercial mechanised paper mill in 1803. Today, it still produces speciality recycled papers made from lavender, Earl Grey tea, coffee, grass, shredded stamps and, yes, elephant and rhino poo.
There are open days and during the summer months visitors can arrive in style in the mill's own ferry.
