Artwork

Artwork means a digital file or set of files for graphic reproduction in a particular medium (for instance litho, digital print, screen process or web publication). Final artwork should be given to the printer in a form which can be reproduced without further modification, together with a visual reference or dummy, all relevant fonts and pictures.
The spread of cheap graphics platforms in non-professional hands means occasionally there is confusion, delay and extra work because artwork has not been correctly prepared. Even professional designers sometimes forget basic artwork protocols - especially if they are working under time pressure, or in an unfamiliar medium. For tips on handing over artwork the right way, see here.

A sizes

A series of standard finished printing trimmed sizes in the ISO international paper size range. See also B sizes and C sizes.

Size Width mm x Height mm
A0 841 x 1189
A1 594 x 841
A2 420 x 594
A3 297 x 420
A4 210 x 297
A5 148 x 210
A6 105 x 148

NB: Most printing is done on paper larger than these sizes to allow for registration marks, bleed and trims. For example RA2= 430 x 610mm and SRA2 =450 x 640mm.

Authors corrections

Amendments made by the client that alter the original copy, previously agreed design or page layout. The cost of taking in author's corrections, and making new proofs, is in principle chargeable to the client - unlike the designer's or printer's errors, or house corrections.
