our approach

Design for the real world

What kind of designers are we? Sensitive, creative, expert, attentive and absolutely professional, say clients.

When you work with Calverts, you're not buying a Calverts house style. You're tapping into a flexible resource of experience, creativity and project management know how which will deliver your visuals, campaigns, publications, websites and marketing collateral on time, on budget and on brand.

Designing for the real world means developing solutions that are not just beautiful and engaging, but also mindful of resources and people. We work with our clients to deliver printed and electronic communications that are financially and environmentaly sustainable. To us, this means no wasted words, no wasted materials and no wasted effort; or, as someone once said, designing on the principle that 'less is more'.

Little Press

Little letterpress machine

Take some cast metal type, add parts of a radio cassette player, a wooden block, some assorted rods, a little copper, and a large helping of creative nous to get this fantastic little letterpress machine. Click here to see a short video on the project or here for more detail.

Lean Logic

Lean Logic Book

A Dictionary for the Future and How to Survive it

David Fleming’s Lean Logic was published in his memory in July 2011.

Printed at Calverts in hardback and finished with a beautiful green book cloth and gold foil blocking on the cover, the book comprises David’s final draft, comprehensive footnotes, bibliography and references and many wonderful wood cuts and illustrations.

All proceeds from sales of Lean Logic will be used to promote David’s work and passions.

David was also involved in the Transition Network which supports community-led responses to climate change and shrinking supplies of cheap energy. The main site for the movement, especially in the UK, is http://www.transitionnetwork.org

Do please spread the lean logic word and encourage others to visit www.leanlogic.net where copies of the book can be bought.

We have a spare copy which we're happy to loan to any interested readers who can call in to collect. Let us know.

More information can be found about David Fleming at the Lean Economy website.
