It stalled for want of energy among the founders - we wanted the benefits of the networking, but spent a lot of time organising network events, hence the idea that it needed to be a consortium business in its own right. Not much heirarchical management needed, but we weren't interested in reinventing the wheel, so it was important to start with a good working set of protocols. P6-type word of mouth networking group can operate with a minimum of administration (a BNI chapter has a rolling 6-month leadership team, whose subscriptions are paid for their term of service). The main work involved is education - 'givers gain' type referral networking involves a set of skills which most people have never been taught, and don't underestimate how long it can take to pick them up!. Of course there are other types of business networking which are much looser, but tend not to yield the same level or quality of referred business. - SW

So why didn't it work?

Standing on the outside (we had a principlesix flier, but never heard of any event), it looks like the hierarchical management is quite demanding. Should we try something more grassrootsy?
