See The Revolutionary Art Exhibit

Thursday, September 9th, 2010

Hot off our press is a new book from local collective Intoart, exploring their distinctive approach to studio practice.

Based on a two year period covering their exhibition at The Whitechapel Gallery the book uses artworks, conversations, writings, workshops and films to challenge perceived ideas on art and disability.

Officially launched on 16/09/2010 at The Whitechapel Gallery, the book is printed on Challenger Matt FSC paper, using vegetable oil-based biodegradable ink and casebound with a very tactile soft-touch laminate.

Currently drying in our pressroom is a rather wonderful invitation for Picador.

Designed and illustrated by Katie Tooke, it’s a three spot colour classic on 400gsm Chromomatt – a  chlorine free matt coated paper to help give an extra bit of zing and pop to the metallic gold (vegetable based, naturally).

Top Tips: Varnish as a design element

Overall litho varnishes and clear coatings are commonly used to stop ink scuffing on coated papers,

but matt  ’spot’ matt and gloss varnishes can also be used to create subtle print effects, either by overlaying inked areas or used as a floating image. A spot litho varnish is an extra printing plate and an extra colour, which means it is usually cheaper than a finishing effect such as clear foil, screen UV varnish, or emboss.
